So you have the engagement ring of your dreams and now you’ve embarked on the journey of planning your big day! From finding the right location to saying yes to the dress, it can feel never ending. But thanks to our guide, finding a wedding ring that you’ll love forever is sure to be an easy task. Let’s take a look at how you can choose a ring that not only suits your personal style but also fits around your lifestyle.
Choosing a Shape
While a classic straight band is the most common choice for wedding rings, it may not be the right fit for everyone. The ideal ring shape often depends on the extravagance of your engagement ring or the overall look you envision for your ring set. Tiara Wedding Rings
If you know that you want a wedding ring that’s just as dramatic (if not more) as your engagement ring, then consider opting for a tiara wedding ring. They're ideal if you want your wedding ring to complement and fit seamlessly around your engagement ring's gemstone, thanks to their varying levels of wishbone shaping. Plus, they're incredibly versatile as you can select gemstones that perfectly match your engagement ring. Straight Wedding Rings
Now, although straight wedding bands are the most traditional choice, that doesn't mean they have to be simple. If you would like a straight wedding ring but don’t want to miss out on detail then you can opt for a more intricate design such as a patterned ring, a beaded ring or even a gemstone eternity ring. There are many choices when it comes to selecting a straight wedding ring and they can be as detailed and opulent as you wish!
We also love simple court style wedding rings which are perfect for those who want to let their engagement ring do all the talking. Court wedding rings are a simple band, crafted from precious metals. They're the most traditional of all the wedding rings, making them perfect for those who want a more subdued and toned down look.
Shaped Wedding Rings
The last shape we’ll be looking at is the shaped wedding band. This style is almost in between tiara and straight wedding bands; they have a slight curve in the middle, meaning they gently outline your engagement rings' centre stone. The shaped wedding ring can be as simple or as intricate as you wish. They can hold detailed engravings or have gemstone inlays, or if you prefer the classic look, they can be made of a simple polished fine metal of your choosing.
Choosing a Gemstone
If you’ve decided that you definitely do want a gemstone wedding band, there’s a few things you should take into consideration before standing firm on your gemstone choice. This is because you will most likely be wearing your wedding ring every day, and not every gemstone is right for everyday wear.
If you want a colourless (or white) stone then we always recommend choosing a diamond wedding ring as these gemstones are the hardest naturally occurring material in the world, so they're less likely to become scratched or damaged when you wear them often! You can also choose a moissanite ring if you don’t have the budget for diamonds as they have a very similar appearance and hardness level to diamonds. However, if a coloured stone is more your vibe then there are plenty of options that are perfect for regular wear. For example, sapphires, rubies and emeralds are all beautiful and sturdy. Picking an Engraving/Pattern
If you’d prefer a patterned wedding ring then there are many options you can choose from. From Art Deco inspired designs to vintage and nature patterns, there’s a world of intricately patterned rings to choose from. You can even choose to have the pattern completely hidden to the world and have it on the inside of the band, making it a personal little detail that only you and your significant other know about!
Choosing the Perfect Metal
This is possibly one of the easier choices when it comes to selecting a wedding ring as you most likely already know what colour metal you prefer. However, there are still a few things to consider before making your choice.
First, take a look at your engagement ring metal and figure out whether you want the metals to match exactly. This means knowing whether your ring is platinum or white gold, or what carat gold your yellow gold ring is as they all hold slightly different properties and shades. For example, platinum is a brighter white/silver than white gold, and 18 carat gold will be a much more vibrant yellow than 9 carat gold. Therefore, it's a good idea to know exactly what metal your engagement ring is before choosing a wedding ring.
However, if you’re not too fussed about them matching perfectly then you can choose a different carat weight depending on budget or lifestyle choices. And remember, your engagement and wedding ring don’t actually have to match at all! If you'd like a stark contrast in colour then you can always select a wedding ring that’s a completely different metal type to your engagement ring, there’s no set rules and it's all about what works best for you!
